In 2017, Doña Inés de Collahuasi Mining Company commissioned BRASS to conduct a study analyzing the behavior of an API 5L X65 pipeline with a nominal diameter of 8” and a thickness of 7.90 mm using the finite element method. This pipeline was lined with internal HDPE coating for corrosion protection.
Two defined crack size measurements were evaluated, one measuring 20 mm and the other 40 mm, to determine cause and effect of the potential for fracture under constant working pressure and crack propagation conditions with fluctuating loads relative to working pressure.
