In 2016, the 7″ pipeline located at Compañía Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi experienced failures due to ruptures in the vicinity of station PS1. Damages to the external tri-layer HDPE coating were observed which were later attributed to improper installation of construction equipment, leading to corrosive effects on the external steel surface over a period of time.  Compañía Minera Doña Inés de Collahuasi sought support from BRASS to provide consultancy on the repair and operation of the system after a prolonged shutdown where volumes of concentrate had remained trapped inside. Through on-site assistance and virtual meetings, BRASS was able to recommend actions to displace the present concentrate within the pipeline under controlled conditions, provide support during emergency repairs, conduct hydrostatic testing, and suggest measures for normal system operation.
