In 2011, Sierra Gorda SCM commissioned BRASS to carry out detailed engineering services for a project located in Antofagasta, Chile. The project involved the development of an engineering study for the supply of seawater, using a system composed of GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) pipes at the low-pressure section, 2 km, and also at the section of high-pressure above-ground carbon steel pipes, 142 km. The system included an intake and pump station located at the thermal power plant at Mejillones, two high-pressure pump stations, and a terminal station. Additionally, the system included a seawater treatment plant, a filtration plant, a leak detection system, and piping for pig launchers.
